Recently Default received the SOC2 (Service Organization Control 2) certification. This standard, developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is awarded to companies that have implemented processes and systems that enable them to adhere to strict security protocols.
Let’s quickly walk through what this certification entails and why it’s an important factor when choosing an inbound platform.
What is SOC2 and why is it important?
Outside auditors issue two types of SOC2 reports: Type I certifies that a vendor’s systems are suitably designed to meet relevant trust principles, while Type II certifies the operational effectiveness of those systems in doing so.
The five trust principles measured are:
- Security. Protection of system resources against unauthorized access, which helps prevent potential system abuse, theft or unauthorized removal of data, misuse of software, and improper alteration or disclosure of information.
- Availability. System, product, or service accessibility as stipulated by a contract or service level agreement (SLA).
- Processing integrity. Assessment of whether a system achieves its purpose—this requires data processing to be complete, valid, accurate, timely and authorized.
- Confidentiality. Data restrictions to a specified persons or organizations, typically through encryption, network and application firewalls, and rigorous access controls.
- Privacy. Collection, use, retention, disclosure and disposal of personal information in conformity with an organization’s privacy notice and criteria set forth in AICPA’s generally accepted privacy principles (GAPP).
